March 12, 2026 Construction Update
Excavation of sediment from the impoundment has continued over the winter and is projected to continue similar to current conditions through May 2026. Periodic truck traffic will continue entering and leaving the site from/to Wahconah Street to load and transport sediment off-site. Sediment is currently being transported off-site to Seneca landfill in New York. Construction activity is occurring over five, 8-hour workdays each week. Due to management of sediment within the impoundment area itself rather than at the downstream staging area, an additional revision to air quality monitoring locations was implemented in February 2026 to better reflect current construction conditions, as noted in the February 20, 2026, Memorandum regarding Perimeter Air Monitoring Plan for the Bel Air Removal. Removal of the dam structure began in March and is expected to continue incrementally over the next few months.
