August 26, 2025 Construction Update

Between August 11 and 25, installation of the eastern water by-pass channel was completed, including excavation, installation of the polyethylene liner in the channel, and construction of the upstream cofferdam. Currently, water is being diverted into the by-pass channel, and the impoundment is dewatering. Simultaneously, excavation of relatively shallow material from the northern end of the site is underway. Excavation of sediment from the impoundment is planned to begin after Labor Day and continue throughout September. Throughout the next month, loading and off-site transport of sediment off-site will continue, with periodic truck traffic entering and leaving the site. Sediment is currently being transported off-site to a New York state landfill, although an additional receiving landfill in Connecticut may be added in September. Construction has generally been limited to Monday to Thursday, with 10-hour workdays, but the construction crew plans to transition to five, 8-hour work days after Labor Day. No on-site work is planned for Friday August 29 or Monday September 1. Work on upcoming Fridays is anticipated to be limited to sediment loading and transport off-site, with no excavation anticipated for Fridays.
